The six main Munich breweries Augustiner, Hacker-Pschorr, Hofbräu, Löwenbräu, Paulaner and Spaten presented a special exclusively brewed dark beer, which was made after a historic recipe from the early 19th century. The comprehensive five acres of fenced grounds presented historic rides, beer tents and other historical attractions such as a Steckerlfisch grilling, a chain swing and a cotton candy stand. Included in the price of admission, an animal tent and the racecourse could be visited next to the museum. The Munich Oktoberfest originally took place in the 16-day period leading up to the first Sunday in October. In 1994, this longstanding schedule was modified in response to German reunification.
It’s been quite nicely dubbed “The Switzerland of America” for its sweeping vistas and old-world charm. We stumbled, quite by accident, into the town’s very popular Fall Festival , complete with crafts, food and live music. We enjoyed a leisurely stroll uphill along the main street, visiting nearly a dozen stores, ranging from antiques to trendy fashion and health food shops. Once upon a time, I had no use for funky sour beers; now I crave them all the time, and I’m not alone. Home brewers and breweries are expanding their portfolios to meet the increasing demand.
For this reason, there were plans in 2005 to install a Faraday cage around the toilets or to use Mobile phone jammers to prevent telephoning with those devices. More recently, amplifying live music in the toilets has led to them no longer representing a quiet retreat for telephoning. Especially during the middle weekend of the festival, many Italians arrive with caravans (this weekend is therefore referred to by the residents of Munich as “the Italians’ weekend”). In 2011, the security measures were once again increased, this time with 170 partially retractable bollards also designed to prevent forcible access to the festival grounds with a vehicle.
It’s also where you can enjoy both breakfast and dinner at the formal restaurant or a quick bite at the nearby snack bar. With summer memories fading into the distance of my mental rear-view window – and winter looming not far down the road — I knew the time was right for a little autumn getaway with friends. This event always takes place on the first Saturday of the Oktoberfest and serves as the official prelude to the Oktoberfest celebration. Bringing the Oktoberfest vibe to Ridge Avenue, Roxtoberfest is a charming combination of German and craft beers, food trucks, German folk dancing and kids activities. This has been a remarkable year for craft beer in Greenville and around the Upstate. Thew brew scene is really catching fire with many new breweries in the works joining the six that are now open.
