Though any individual channel might be incomplete or noisy, humans can naturally align and fuse information collected from multiple channels, in order to grasp the key concepts needed for a better understanding of the world. One of the core aspirations in artificial intelligence bilibili china open network is to develop algorithms that endow computers with an ability to effectively learn from multi-modality (or multi-channel) data. This data is similar to sights and sounds attained from vision and language that help humans make sense of the world around us.

Most of all, they resent the influx of rowdy new users, whom they accuse of ruining their online haven with unkind and negative comments. This highlights the attractiveness of Bilibili as an advertising platform to large international and domestic brands. The company underwent significant changes in 2015, when it opened the platform to a wider range of content and has since undergone a surge in popularity and increased revenue. In 2018, the company floated on both the New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ. In 2020, Sony Corporation of America acquired a 4.98% minority stake in Bilibili for US$400 million, which valued the company at US$8 billion. In April 2019, a repository called “Bilibili website backend codes”, with a large number of usernames and passwords, was published on GitHub. The repository was taken down by GitHub due to “excessive use of resources”.

Starting from 2017, Bilibili’s value proposition is to consolidate its relationship with existing low-end users and try to attract more mid-end and high-end users. In terms of revenue stream, it can be seen that the box office of the three films were not impressive, each of which did not exceed ¥200 million RMB.

As a content platform, Bilibili’s story shows the development process of content platforms in emerging economies. This research explores the content of Bilibili at different stages of development from the perspective of business model, and tries to show a new growth path for enterprises in emerging economies. This research finds that in the three development stages of Bilibili, the nine elements of business model presented different characteristics and were combined into three distinct models. This study provides a reference for the theory and practice of the growth of emerging economies and the evolution of business models. In 2018, Ni Li, the Vice Chairwoman of the Board of Directors and Chief Operating Officer of Bilibili, said, “Documentaries have become an important part of the content ecosystem of Bilibili”. The word “content ecosystem” here indicates that Bilibili, as a content platform, wants to gradually attract more mid-end and high-end users.

On 9 October 2016, Bilibili launched a premium membership subscription service on the site, costing around ¥25 per month, or approximately US$2 per month on a long-term subscription. Premium members get access to videos in high resolution and can receive early access to certain videos, alongside other benefits such as discounts on Bilibili-owned games. From 1 January 2018, Bilibili extended its early access programme to premium members, giving them early access to certain episodes of animated series, with regular members needing to wait a week to watch them. Bilibili’s platform also offers a feature called “advanced subtitles”, where users can use an ECMAScript-based API to control video playback, dynamically change danmaku subtitles and draw shapes on the screen. However, some features are only available on browsers running Adobe Flash, and do not work well with HTML5 players.

I have collected data about Bilibili’s history, subsidiaries, related companies, organizational structure, corporate operation status , industry information and institutional environment, main founders and managers, and major partnerships in recent years. Data sources are Bilibili’s annual reports and online public data such as Baidu, public interviews, and corporate resources from Qichacha, etc. The data are collected from Bilibili’s founding year of 2009 to May 7, 2021. The information about finance and operation of Bilibili are shown in Table 2.
