The performance, a part of the PCD World Tour, was not well received in the Muslim state, which frowned upon the group’s “eye-popping attire” and “sexually suggestive stage routines”. Absolute Entertainment, the company behind the group’s appearance in Malaysia, was fined $3000 for the incident. Two final singles would be released from the album, “I Don’t Need a Man” and “Wait a Minute”, with the former becoming a moderate success and the latter becoming the group’s fifth top 40 single on the Hot 100. Carmen Electra is dropping some fire into her Instagram feed on a Tuesday afternoon by reminiscing about a fun event from the past when she rolled around as a member of The Pussycat Dolls. Electra took to social media and shared the throwback from way back in 2004, when the star performed at the Argyle Hotel back in 2004 for the launch of Christian Dior’s newest collection at the time, D’Trick. During 2003, Antin struck a joint venture with Interscope Records to develop the Pussycat Dolls into a brand, with Jimmy Iovine assigning the project to Ron Fair.
With ten songs and an EP subtitled The Mini Collection was released in the United Kingdom. The group’s debut album, PCD, was released in September 2005 and sold three million copies in the United States. The album’s lead single, “Don’t Cha”, was a number-one hit in various countries worldwide, and reaching number two on the US Billboard Hot 100. It was followed by “Stickwitu”, which became their second number-one single in the UK and New Zealand, and reached number five on the Hot 100. It was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. “Beep” also became a hit, reaching number one in Belgium and New Zealand, number two in the UK, and number thirteen in the US.
In January 2022, Scherzinger officially confirmed the tour’s cancellation on an Instagram story post. The official reasons cited “evolving circumstances surrounding the pandemic”. And later confirming that there were “truths to this situation” which may see the light of day one day. She confirmed that both she and Roberts still want the tour to happen. Although the last known tour dates were confirmed cancelled by Antin and Scherzinger, Live Nation’s website lists 9 new UK and Ireland tour listings for the group under the date “rescheduled”.
In January 2013, Roberts became a member of the ice panel for the final two series of British skating show, Dancing on Ice on ITV. In June 2014, Roberts announced her debut album, titled Butterfly Effect, would be released on September 1, 2014. Since the Pussycat Dolls were originally a burlesque dance troupe, Scherzinger and Thornton were the only members specifically hired for singing role when the group turned into a pop act in 2003. As part of a Behind the Music special on Scherzinger’s career, she claimed that she was responsible for singing both lead and background vocals on both of the group’s studio albums, with hardly anything sung by her fellow members. Scherzinger, who said that she did not want to get in trouble for her revelations, explained that the other members did not even hear the tracks until they were finished. The Pussycat Dolls achieved worldwide success with the singles “Don’t Cha”, “Stickwitu”, “Buttons”, and their multi-platinum debut album PCD .
The only troupe members who remained after the re-casting process were Robin Antin, Carmit Bachar, Cyia Batten, Kasey Campbell, Ashley Roberts, Jessica Sutta and Kimberly Wyatt. Electra, when asked about her lack of involvement with the group’s evolution into a popular music group, said, “I was part of for over two years and did every show with them […] but financially, I couldn’t become part of their new music project […] It was a sacrifice I couldn’t make.” Not an easy feat, considering that A-listers such as Charlize Theron and No Doubt’s Gwen Stefani have bumped and grinded onstage as guest Dolls. The lineup in this throwback to burlesque has included Christina Applegate, Brittany Murphy, Jaime Pressly, Nikka Costa and Christina Aguilera, who adhered to a less-is-more approach when it came to costumes. Fishnet stockings, hot pants, barely there bras and, of course, very high heels, arede rigueur.
The music video for “Don’t Cha” is noted for being “iconic” among girl groups. With “Buttons” surpassing 2 million digital downloads, the Pussycat Dolls became the first all-female group in digital history to have three singles—along with “Don’t Cha” and “When I Grow Up”—pass the two million mark in digital sales. After the group’s initial disbandment in 2010, all members continued on their solo projects.
I think the game will have a few different options on the carmen in question, all of which might be cool. American glamour girl Carmen Electra hosted the grand opening of the Pussycat Dolls Burlesque Saloon at Planet Hollywood Resort Saturday night. “She’s kind of annoying. She’s got a real nasal tone to her voice. She’s got those long hoochie nails. I got to get airbrushed and wear really cool outfits and crazy hairdos. It was so over-the-top, but inspired by girls I went to school with and a phase in my life when I was trying to be something that I wasn’t.” “I would love to sing again, I would love to do another album,” she said. “It’s a passion of mine. Who knows, maybe the Bombshells could do it. As for now, we’re gonna dance and that to me is fun, being onstage in front of an audience. I’m very excited about it. And I want to keep it underground, more that vibe.” When her work includes dancing, she gets most of her activity done during work.
Carmen Electra also rejoined the Pussycat Dolls briefly in 2011 when they performed a burlesque show at the Sundance Film Festival, and then later when they also made David Letterman’s head explode during a sexy appearance on his late-night talk show. It’s not highly publicized, but Carmen Electra was actually one of the original members of the Pussycat Dolls back in 1993 when it was just a burlesque troupe founded by famed bratz dolls selfie snaps choreographer Robin Antin. At the birthplace of Robin Antin‘s hybrid burlesque act, the Dolls closed out Bing’s Sunset Strip Summer Concert Series, with special guest stars Kelly Osbourne, Mya and Carmen Electra. Carmen is the first of a new line of dolls that will be available in the game, all of which can be decorated with different materials. The dolls are meant to be a platform for creating your own custom designs.
The original recording line-up, minus Thornton, announced their reunion in 2019 with an upcoming tour and a new album. However, with the worsening situation arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, along with breaches of contracts and logistical issues, the reunion tour was cancelled in 2022, leaving the group’s fate uncertain. Lead member Nicole Scherzinger continued her solo career after a halt to release the group’s second and final studio album. In March 2010, it was announced that Scherzinger would be a celebrity contestant on the tenth season of Dancing with the Stars, partnering with Derek Hough, which she won. In March 2011, Scherzinger released her debut studio album, Killer Love, and experienced moderate success in certain territories.
